Goalkeeper Xhevair Kapllani was one of the major factors in 1994, when Teuta won their first and only championship. He remained unbeaten for 793 minutes, making him the recordholder and gaining him his only calls to the national team so far. More recently Perparim Daiu and Afrim Tole, who came from Partizan, played their international games. In January 1999, Teuta Durres was ranked 15th, threatened by relegation, when the club, which had been playing under the names Ylli i Kuq, Durresi, Puna e Durresit and Lokomotiva, strengthened their squad and called coach Hasan Lika, a former international, who had been the coach of Partizan Tirana between 1994 and 1996. He was the assistant coach of the 15 times champion, when Tirana were eliminated by Akranes in the Champions' Cup, the very Akranes Teuta will now play in the first round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Participating in the UIC is meant to motivate the players. Unlike many other Albanian clubs, Teuta have the financial means to take part in an international competition. -ba

Torwart Xhevair Kapllani hatte 1994 grossen Anteil am bisher einzigen Meistertitel Teutas. Mit 793 Minuten ohne Gegentreffer stellte er damals einen Rekord auf, was ihm die bisher einzigen Einsätze in der Nationalmannschaft einbrachte. Weniger weit liegen die Länderspiele der Partizan-Zuzüge Perparim Daiu und Afrim Tole zurück. Teuta Durres lag im Januar 1999 auf einem Abstiegsplatz (15.). Dann verstärkte der Verein, der seit seiner Gründung auch unter den Namen Ylli i Kuq, Durresi, Puna e Durresit und Lokomotiva auftrat, sein Kader und holte Hasan Lika als Trainer. Der Ex-Nationalspieler hatte zwischen 1994 und 1996 Partizan Tirana betreut. Als Hilfscoach des 15fachen Meisters schied Lika ein Jahr zuvor im Meistercup gegen Akranes aus, gegen das er nun mit Teuta in der 1. Runde des UEFA-Intertoto-Cups trifft. Die Teilnahme am UIC soll den Spielern in der Saison 1999/2000 eine zusätzliche Motivation verleihen. Die finanzielle Situation erlaubt Teuta im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Vereinen Albaniens, die Teilnahme an einem internationalen Wettbewerb. -lb
